The Deloitte Fast 50 Index is an annual list showing which NZ start-up has grown the most in one year, and for 2024, virtual fencing and pasture management business, Halter takes the top spot.
Halter, which is best known for its app and cow collar technology that lets farmers virtually fence, herd and monitor cattle 24/7, has grown a whopping 1539% in one year.
The company was founded in 2016 and has since become one of the leading figures in the Kiwi agtech scene.
Halter is now available in New Zealand, Australia and US markets.
Every year, Deloitte ranks businesses according to their rapid revenue growth for the past three years and sets the benchmark for high growth in the country.
“The growth this year’s Fast 50 businesses have achieved over the past three years is a tribute to their agility, innovation and self-belief,” says Deloitte Private Partner and Fast 50 lead, James Arlidge.
“The variety of industries in the index this year also reflects the depth and breadth of the entrepreneurial talent we have here in Aotearoa.”
He added that the Kiwi companies in the 2024 edition of the Fast 50 Index are pioneering the Kiwi entrepreneurial spirit and reputation despite the economic challenges the country is facing.
This year’s list saw a number of industries but the service industry, specifically construction, technology and retail were well represented.

Following Halter, Hamilton based electricity platform, OLT takes second place after seeing a 1237% growth.
Steel fabrication, Pact Steel (751%), private institute, Franklin Hospital (477%) and bespoke travel provider, Fortis Travel and Events (447%) follow them on the list, rounding out the Deloitte Fast 50 index top five.
Both the top two spots, Halter and OLT exceeded the growth that 2023’s top two of VeVe and Hire Staff saw.
Alongside the Fast 50, Deloitte revealed the Master of Growth index, a list that ranks the top 20 fastest growing established businesses achieving longer term sustained growth.
Telecommunications brand Devoli takes the top spot at 478% growth. This is then followed by WasteCo (467%), BlackBull Markets (443%), Groovy Group (424%) and FSL Construction and Interiors (416%).
“This year saw more businesses enter the Master of Growth than ever before, which is a positive sign given the economic uncertainty many have faced in recent times,” says Arlidge.
“It’s humbling and inspiring to celebrate fast growing Kiwi businesses and to see both new and returning organisations taking their places on the indices.”
