Lighter, stronger, faster: Deconstructing the BMW i3

Built at its wind-powered plant in Leipzig, the i3 was conceived by a breakaway team in 2008 with permission from the BMW board to ‘rethink mobility’. The result is a new BMW, with almost no steel, a grass- sourced dashboard and a manufacturing process that uses 50 per cent less energy and 70 per cent less water than the average BMW.
