Inspirational Kiwis hit the road

Leading New Zealanders based at home and offshore will tour the three main centres later this month as part of Kea and the World Class New Zealand network’s Inspire Days.

This year the headline acts include tech entrepreneur Claudia Batten, based in Colorado, and Sydney-based entrepreneur Rebekah Campbell, the founder of Posse, a platform for neighbourhood newbies to find the best places as recommended by their friends.

Batten joined the founding team at Massive Software, a network for video game advertising, which sold to Microsoft in 2006. In 2009 she co-founded Victors & Spoils with ad industry veteran John Winsor and Evan Fry.

Among the other overseas-based speakres are cancer researcher Dr Murray Brennan, who lives in New York, Kiwi Landing Pad board member Craig Elliott and Dr Catherine Mohr, director of California’s Media Research at Intuitive Surgical.

Elliott is based in Silicon Valley, where he runs the cloud startup Pertino, and is on Xero’s board. He’s also an advisor to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.

Brennan is chairman emeritus and vice president for international programmes at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre. His eldest son Sean is establishing Brennan Winees in the Gibbston Valley.

Speakers based in New Zealand include co-founder of Kim Crawford Wines, Erica Crawford, CEO of PowerbyProxi, Greg Cross, philanthropist and tech entrepreneur Neville Jordan, founder of international business development firm MediaSense Hal Josephson and co-founder of biotech firm Lanzatech, Dr Sean Simpson.

The Inspire Days have been running for six years and this year will begin in Auckland on 26 May.
