Rapid growth and enterprise diversity celebrated at the 2015 Deloitte Fast 50
Wellington-based craft brewery, Garage Project, took the number one spot with a spectacular growth rate of 664% growth over the last three years. Read Idealog’s full interview with the winners here.
Close behind Garage Project was Christchurch construction company Farrell Group (628% growth), Mad Group (603%), bespoke jewellery manufacturer Naveya & Sloane (552%) and tradespeople recruiter Tech 5 Recruitment (545%).
Of the companies making the list, 15 are technology companies, 12 are consumer businesses, eight are from the construction industry and six are manufacturers. The remaining nine companies on the index are from the health, agribusiness, tourism, education and energy industries.
Bill Hale, Deloitte Private partner, says that the wide diversity among the ranked businesses shows is important, providing job opportunities across more than just the tech industry, and demonstrating that any SME businesses can be successful in their niche with the right strategy and execution.
“What’s more, the high percentage of first-timers and the large number of smaller companies with revenue under $5 million suggests that there is plenty more growing to do for this year’s group of companies.”
The Deloitte Fast 50 index ranks the top 50 businesses in country according to their revenue growth over the past three years. Entrants are required to be New Zealand registered companies and have had operating revenue of at least $300,000 in the 2012/13 financial year.
Former number one ranked companies include TradeMe, 42 Below, Powershop, My Food Bag and HRV. (For a breakdown of past Deloitte Fast 50 results, and commentary from Bill Hale, Icehouse’s Andy Hamilton and Accenture’s Nikhil Ravishankar, click here.)
The threshold for entry into this year’s competition was 194% (slightly below last year’s record 201%), with the top 7 companies on the index all having three-year growth rates in excess of 500%.
Along with the overall win, Garage Project took out the national award for fastest growing manufacturer.
Lewis Road Creamery was named the 2015 national Rising Star, recognised as an early-stage, innovative, high potential company. Farrell Group won the national award for fastest growing services business and Mad Group won the national award for fastest growing retail or consumer products business.
Vend won fastest growing technology business, Compass Agribusiness Management for fastest growing agribusiness, EBOS for fastest growing mature business and The Collective for the fastest growing exporter.
