After a series of delays, AWS (Amazon Web Services) is ready to bring its cloud data centre to New Zealand waters.
Some of New Zealand’s biggest companies are set to be AWS’s first customers when it launches in 2025; Vector, One New Zealand and Datacom.
AWS will support them in digital transformation and migration to the cloud using infrastructure and technology based in a West Auckland site.
The AWS region in Auckland is a $7.5 billion investment and is expected to create 1000 new jobs and contribute $10.8 billion to the country’s GDP over 15 years.
With the launch of AWS, start-ups to enterprises will be able to access technologies that will support and serve the growing demand for cloud services in New Zealand.
Energy company Vector says that it is working with AWS to accelerate its vision of creating a new energy future.

“We’re currently using AWS to run a significant portion of our digital workloads as we migrate, modernise, and transition toward a more sustainable environment,” says Jerry Li, General Manager of Digital Technology at Vector.
On the other hand, One New Zealand has already been leveraging AWS to drive levels of customer experience and satisfaction.
One New Zealand revealed a 10% increase in customers dealing with knowledgeable and friendly representatives alongside a 10% increase in customer trust.
AWS is set to give New Zealand the highest network availability of any cloud provider to support Kiwi businesses of any size.
The launch in New Zealand in 2025 will give the region secure tools, services and infrastructure necessary to build an AI-led digital economy to compete on the global stage.
However, this is only one of several major investments the global company has announced to support growth, innovation and digital transformation for Kiwi customers.
