Auckland fintech start-up partners up with ASB

Qippay, an Auckland-based fintech company announced their partnership with major New Zealand bank ASB, an early step in transforming open banking within the country.

Hoping to change how transactional payments are processed using open banking, Qippay, founded in 2021, has caught the attention of the big yellow ASB.

With the latest partnership, ASB will be integrating Qippay’s innovative payment solution into how they deliver payment services through bank accounts.

“This partnership represents a shared commitment to innovation and customer-centricity,” says Ashley Lakes-John (pictured), co-founder and CEO of Qippay.

“Integrating ASB’s robust banking infrastructure with Qippay’s innovative payment platforms, offers customers and merchants a streamlined, efficient and safe experience when it comes to transacting online.”

Their partnership will be set in stone on May 30, when ASB customers will be able to pay for goods and services by connecting directly and safely.

ASB’s Tribe Lead for Everyday Money Micheal Maclean sees this partnership as a way to provide customers more choice over how they bank.

“We are excited to be able to offer customers new payment options, powered by open banking, that are safe and easy to use,” says Maclean.

“The partnership with Qippay is a great step forward to enable businesses and consumers to have more choices in how they pay and get paid.”

This is Qippay’s third partnership with a leading national banking service, following BNZ and Westpac. It positions the fintech start-up as a pioneer in transforming the way Kiwis bank.

“Our mission has always been to make payments more accessible, efficient and secure for everyone involved and, with ASB on board, we are a step closer to realising that vision. Together, we are setting a new standard for financial services in the country,” adds Lakes-John.
