Book Review: Legacy: What The All Blacks Can Teach Us About The Business Of Life

What The All Blacks Can Teach Us About The Business Of Life . 15 Lessons In Leadership by James Kerr
Constable and Robinson $A29.99

You might expect a book with a black cover, its title in glossy silver and an image of a boy sprinting towards a try to interest only Kiwi blokes who never miss an All Blacks’ test.

But the appeal is broader thanks to a range of examples and references from sports other than rugby – and management disciplines outside sport.

That reflects the qualifications of the author, UK-based writer James Kerr, who’s been a brand consultant for more than 20
years, and trawled websites, articles, films and books to produce Legacy.

He complements that with All Black insight from being embedded in the team’s camp for five weeks in 2010.

The chapters cover character, organisational culture building, change management, developing people and skills – and more.

Although its subject matter makes examples from female leaders hard to find, it does enough to extend its potential audience beyond blokes and Kiwis.

Amanda Sachtleben is an Auckland writer and social media type, who's also Idealog's former tech editor and business journalist.
