Popular Kiwi restaurant, Metita wins international design award

The Pacific-inspired restaurant at Auckland’s SkyCity hotel, Metita, has won a prestigious design award for Kiwi design studio, CTRL SPACE’s work on the space.

Now in its 16th year, the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards – an awards that is the only awards of its kind – recognises the food and beverage spaces all over the world. For 2024, the awards was held in Barcelona.

With a judging panel of design heavyweights from across the world, Metita was the sole nominee from New Zealand.

CTRL Space’s Founder and Principal, Chris Stevens and Creative Director, Sam Griffin – the people behind the design of Metita – says that attending the ceremony and being nominated was already a high honour.

“This is incredible. We are so proud to represent New Zealand on an international stage such as this. We put our heart and soul into our work and it is extra special that Metita is the recipient of this award,” says Stevens.

Its design is enduring but importantly, it adds something truly unique to our country’s hospitality landscape, helping to tell the story of Aotearoa’s rich and vibrant culture.”

Metita took home the Best Australia & Pacific Restaurant in the Hotel category.

CTRL Space has a history of winning big for its designs in hospitality, hotels and workplaces. Its work for another Kiwi restaurant, Nightcar, has been recognised from Architecture NZ.
