Launching into New Zealand’s activewear market, Kiwi-designed athleisurewear brand Marlow is set to provide highly versatile staple pieces for the modern-day woman.
Founder and director of the label, Bailey Mark, has been in the fashion industry for over a decade, working in both New Zealand and London with iconic international and domestic fashion brands. After arriving back in New Zealand, Mark had the desire to create a clothing brand that would meet her passion for health, well-being, and conscious active living. It was during the country’s first Lockdown that she designed her first range for Marlow, ‘Desert Oasis’, created for the spring and summer of 2020.
Starting her own clothing label, Mark says, came down to determination, creativity, and resilience. It was also her mother Trish that gave her inspiration for Marlow’s aesthetic.
“My mother has over 40 years of experience in director roles, design, production, and buying for leading sportswear and online retailers. I have never come across anyone in the industry with more product and technical knowledge than her. She is a huge asset to the business and we are lucky to have her support.”
Mark says forming networks in the industry has also been a great help towards starting her business.
“Every which way I turn, I am surrounded by extremely talented people that I trust and value their view and expertise. There is so much support and great energy around me which is exciting.”
Marlow’s Desert Oasis collection is made up of everyday active and loungewear pieces designed for the consumer with a busy lifestyle. The brand’s must-have essentials for the summer season ahead include lightweight knits, buttery soft active-wear, created in the brand’s signature Airbrush Sculpt fabric, and laid back loungewear, a fashion trend that has seen a rise in popularity during 2021.
Mark says her biggest focus for the label is producing premium quality items, crafted from technical fabrics that will last for years to come. The pieces are created with not only the body in mind, but to be layered, mixed, and matched, with activewear to create the perfect chic yet relaxed look.
Made with a sophisticated colour palette, customers can expect blush, rosewood, and olive tones and a refined set of neutrals, underpinned by a crisp black and white monochromatic core, to keep the range looking fresh. Combining a subtle utilitarian style with feminine elements, the range aims to leave the wearer feeling confident and composed.
