Adobe joins the AI train

Creative cloud system Adobe is among other large tech companies integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into their apps such as Photoshop.

AI will be used in Adobe Photoshop through its programme Firefly to create the generative fill tool, allowing users to extend images and add or remove objects.

The use of AI is the beginning of the company’s widescale integration across all its existing creative workflows, giving users the chance to “accelerate ideation, exploration and production”.

“Generative Fill combines the speed and ease of generative AI with the power and precision of Photoshop, empowering customers to bring their visions to life at the speed of their imaginations,” says Ashley Still, Senior Vice President of Digital Media at Adobe.

Still says Adobe is working towards making the world more creative, productive and personalised with the use of AI as a co-pilot that “amplifies human ingenuity”.

Adobe has been using and integrating AI into their applications; however, the introduction of Firefly is by far their most innovative and smart utilisation of the technology.

Still adds that the deep integration has allowed applications such as Photoshop to give users new creative workflows.

The use of AI in the creative industry is nothing new with many AI generated image creations becoming  mainstream over the past year. This includes stock image library giant Shutterstock also unveiling an AI image generator.

Recently, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding AI-generated images of Pope Francis, as they have become increasingly challenging to distinguish from real photographs.

Launched over six weeks ago, Firefly has quickly become the most successful beta launches Adobe has released in its history.

These AI capabilities trained through Adobe’s library of stock images, are openly licensed content and public domain content without copyright restrictions, giving users the opportunity to accelerate their content supply chain production.

Hoping to redefine how businesses can deliver, the introduction of Firefly is only the beginning of the software company advancing its digital tools.
