NZ analytics tool makes Web Technologies of the year awards

Going up against big names such as Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel, New Zealand-based company Matomo takes home the web “Traffic Analysis Tool of the Year” for 2022.

The open-source web analytics platform is the world’s first independent tool and used by millions across 220 countries.

Matomo helps businesses control their online presence through data to “gain a deeper understanding of their visitors and drive conversions and revenue”.

Determine by trusted web technology research company, W3Tech determined Matomo as part of “Web Technologies of the Year” after the massive growth the NZ-based company saw in 2022.

“Matomo, the privacy-focused open source analytics platform, is the traffic analysis tool of the year for the first time, while Google Analytics and the other previous winners all lost a bit of market share in 2022,” says W3Tech.

Launched in 2007, Founder Matthieu Aubry says the recognition for Matomo is a “positive reminder” of the quality that they are producing that is performing well across the globe.

“As the first independent, open-source traffic analysis tool to receive this recognition, Matomo is humbled and honoured to lead the charge for change. It’s a testament to the hard work of our community, and it’s a clear sign that consumers and organisations are looking for ethical alternatives,” says Aubry.

“This recognition is a major win for the entire privacy movement and proves that the tide is turning against the big tech players who I believe have long prioritised profits over privacy.”

Aubry adds that in 2023 Matomo is focused on continuing work towards improving the tool to create a more private and secure digital landscape.
