Where Versace meets Liberace: super yachts for the girls

Move over you macho man. Monaco-based Lidia Bersani is set to usher in a new era of yachting – one oozing with mother of pearl, gold, Swarovski crystals, furs and other touches of girlie elements.

Her first concept, encapsulated in the 80-metre luxury yacht La Belle, is aimed at women. Perhaps it can be a gift from an indulgent oil sheikh, or a super wealthy dotting husband willing to part with a cool US$100 million to furnish a hang out for wifey and the gals. Or a super rich heiress with millions to throw into a new project.

Bersani says on her website, La Belle is designed for women. Its colour scheme is predominantly white, ivory, and gold. The interiors are full of ‘opulent and comfortable elements’, she says.

She hopes to transform the traditional male-dominated ambience of super yachts (think  cigar rooms and billard tables) into one with spas and beauty centres.  Think lots of mirrors, circular beds, and discos. Think soft ivory colours, shades of cream. Many sparks of gold.

According to CNBC, the world’s top 10 super yachts are mainly owned by men.

The CNBC also reported Winston Chesterfield, associate director at wealth research company Ledbury Research (since rebranded Wealth X), saying: “From an aesthetic point of view it is (La Belle) clearly intended for the Arab or Russian market. It is extremely over the top and looks like Versace and Liberace rolled into one.”
