Camera company, FUJIFILM have unveiled its new model, the X-M5 and Idealog writer and not even an amateur – more like an enjoyer of taking pictures – Bernadette Basagre, was lucky enough to try it out for a weekend.
Now I am not a photographer, but what I can say is that I enjoy taking pictures.
For a while in my life I enjoyed using film cameras; they were easy to use and gave me the photos I want. But there was a bit of a chore aspect to it when you finished a roll and had to get it developed.
And don’t get me started on the wait for your film to be developed when you want to take a picture.
But the FUJIFILM X-M5 has found the answer to my little first world problems.
Combining all of FUJIFILM’s film camera settings, you get the digital camera, the X-M5.
The Film Simulation feature was my favourite aspect. It was easy to use and gave me a wide number of options – 20 different modes – when it comes to taking pictures.
Not only did it solve the digital aspect of my problem, which is having to wait for my photos to be developed to start capturing again, it also removed having a number of different types of film in my bag to get specific and desired looks.
It allowed me to try film filters I have never used before, but also allowed me to continue using my favourites, which are the Velvia 100 and the Provia 100 and I highly recommend for when you’re taking pictures in the sunlight.

The X-M5 really opened my eyes to the plethora of FUJIFILM films that I have yet to try.
And for those who may not know what filter to use, the X-M5 has an AUTO Mode that allows the camera to determine what is better suited for the picture.
Unlike your regular 35mm film cameras, the X-M5 opens up the gates to allow for the film aesthetic across the options digital cameras have to offer, such as taking pictures with a wider lens or on video.
It was a breath of fresh air to be able to take pictures from a wider angle than usual which at most times is restricted in 35mm cameras – a perfect feature for landscape photographers.
Though videos aren’t my forte, it is a feature I can still stand by. It was nice to have the option to video while still having the option to use the Film Simulation feature. The mic and camera also performed outstandingly.
This is an all-in-one portable digital camera that really does have everything all mixed into one.
Out of all the cameras I have used before, this is the most convenient, portable and smart. And it is also a really pretty camera to hold.
I can see the X-M5 being a standard camera for both beginners and the seasoned veterans in the space, and at only $1799, it gives you much better bang for your buck than its competitors.
If you are in the market for a new digital camera, the FUJIFILM X-M5 is something you need to check out before making your purchase.
