The runway is a space for creativity and originality, with often the wildest visions becoming the most popular. The Y/Project has tapped into those wild visions heavily with a thigh-high Ugg boot at Paris Fashion Week.
The boot itself ranges from just under the knee to crotch height, giving off a snow-boot meets Jabba the Hutt vibe. Described as ‘so bad it’s good’ shoe, the boot gives Y/Projects other outlandish footwear (think toe mules) a run for their money.
Debuted at Paris Fashion Week, the labels creative director Glenn Martens added his signature look of packed layers and added them to the boot.
The extreme height was meant to enhance an Ugg’s best quality: comfort.
“Putting on Uggs is like putting your foot in a warm pot of butter, and I thought why not elevate that and immerse your full legs!” said Martens. “So, we decided to design an Ugg boot that climbs up to the crotch and covers the whole leg.”
This twist of an everyday item into something ridiculous is typical for fashion week, and no doubt not the last ‘so bad its good’ shoe expected to come out of the runway season.
