David Trubridge designs light up our TV screens

A set up of lights and furniture from the David Trubridge range has made its way into the Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi series Extant.

The Koura, Cloud, Flax and Reed lights are used in the home of the lead character, played by Halle Berry, along with the Gallery Bench and New Sling furniture.

A set designer for the show was passing a window display in a showroom in Los Angeles that represents David Trubridge, and spotted the Koura fixture.

They told the team at David Trubridge Ltd that they were drawn to the designer’s work, as “it is contemporary and yet has a quality that is connected to another time, based on the use of primary materials and a high sense of craftmanship.”

Ben Pearce, head of marketing at David Trubridge Ltd, says the market for their designs in the United States is immeasurably big and that there’s a shift of focus in consumer demand for green design, sustainable design and products made from natural materials.

“All our products have their own unique stories of how they came to be designed and these have resonated with our USA customers,” says Ben. “There are no other designs like our products out there and are seen as highly original and impressive, bridging the realm of design, art and sculpture.”

It’s good timing for David, who’s speaking at eight cities across the US next month, including the SXSW Eco conference in Austin, Texas. For all the tour dates and details, see here.

Surf, design, travel – these are the things that gets Leigh out of bed every morning (those, and a piping hot cup of milky tea). She holds qualifications in both fashion design and communications, and has written a bunch of fashion, beauty, food, travel and design stories.
