Friday Frivolities: lettuce, Simpsons, lifting, robots, etc.

We, for one, welcome our new robot overlords

‘Spread’ is the troubling name of a new Japanese company who’s creating a robot farm that can produce up to 30,000 heads of lettuce a day (with that number expected to increase 500,000 within five years).

The Kyoto-based company says the farm will be operational mid-2017.

“Our aim,” says company spokesman J.J Price, “is not to replace human farmers, but to develop a system where humans and machines work together.”

Consider yourself warned.

Woah…

THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol (don’t pretend you don’t know what that is), has been discovered by scientists at the University of Hawaii inside a meteorite in the Nevada desert.

“If psychoactive elements are found outside of this planet’s atmosphere, what does it say about the rest of the universe?” asks astrophysicist James Han, head of the research team.

“If these chemical substances, that change brain functions and result in alterations in perception, mood, or consciousness in mammals as well as humans, find their origin in outer space, what role then has cometary impacts played on the human species? Or on life on the planet as whole? This discovery ultimately leaves us with more questions than answers”.

Professor Frink, Professor Frink, he’ll make you laugh, he’ll make you think

We all know that feeling… hanging out with your friends/colleagues on Slack or Gchat, and you have a Simpsons reference so on point, it’ll make the whole (chat) room explode with laughter but you can’t quite remember the quote or what episode it was from. Well, some internet genius (probably some millennial/GenZ who was still in diapers when the Simpsons watched a tube TV) has made a Simpsons search engine that appears to contain every frame in of the Simpsons, searchable by keyword, character, quote, everything!

This one comes up when I search “friv”:

Plus, you can ‘throw out the script’ and make your own meme if you want. Like this:

Cool, huh?

Hell toupee

We recommend clicking this link and, once loaded, click to the side of the head, hold your click and do quick circles around The Donald’s head. Fun!

We have nothing to say about this
