The Best Illustrated Book Award was the judges’ most difficult proposition in this year’s PANZ Book Design Awards.
The PANZ Young Designer of the Year Award is always hotly contested, the judges say.
The three finalists in this year’s lineup are Jenny Haslimeier, Kalee Jackson and Sam Bunny. Each designer submitted a portfolio of between three and five books designed in 2013.
The judges also found the Edify Award for Best Educational Book category judge. “To present complicated information while remaining engaging to students shows a designer’s real strength,” says judge Cameron Gibb.
The Gerard Reid Award for Best Book sponsored will be chosen from the winners of the seven categories and will be announced at the awards ceremony in Auckland on 17 July.
