In front of a record crowd at Cordis in Auckland, award hosts Erin McKenzie from NZ Marketing magazine and StopPress, and Tony Mitchell, from the Marketing Association, alongside MC Te Radar celebrated the coming together of strategic brilliance, creative excellence and impressive commercial results.
Also enjoying wins in the sector and excellence categories were Subaru of New Zealand; Fisher & Paykel Healthcare; Tower Insurance; Kiwibank; BLIS Technologies; The Edge – MediaWorks; NZ AIDS Foundation; Health Promotion Agency / Te Hiringa Hauora; Mitre 10 (New Zealand); All Blacks Tours; Meridian Energy; Safe Kids in Daily Supervision and Nestlé New Zealand; Engineering New Zealand; Tonkin + Taylor; Skinny; Flight Centre New Zealand; J H Whittaker & Sons.
13 of those were contenders for the Supreme Award after being judged the best in their sector.
About DB Breweries’ Supreme win, judges said: “Tui was brave to take their long established and heritage brand into a new and opposing marketing segment. This was a legacy brand facing the need to revitalise itself. Marketing directed the business to take the risk of shifting their brand and were able to not only perform well but retain their core market. Taking the new product to marketing without the advantage of their prime sales channel was an additional challenge. They incorporated their heritage values into the new product development to leverage the associated brand deep equity and make a solid mark in the category. It is a true end-to-end marketing solution, reshaping the business with it.”
In addition to the sector and excellence winners, three outstanding individuals were also honoured on the night. The coveted Rookie Marketer of the Year was Emily Thorn from Auckland Council, while the Marketer of the Year went to Jo Mitchell from McDonald’s New Zealand.
Philip Poole was inducted into the Marketing Hall of Fame, with an inspirational video by TVNZ’s Blacksand including speeches from his industry friends and colleagues.
