Icebreaker's billion-dollar vision

Icebreaker has been sold to US-based footwear and apparel retailer VF Corporation, which also owns the likes of Timberland, Vans, Wrangler, Lee Jeans, and The North Face. We're republishing this story about Icebreaker founder Jeremy Moon and chairperson Rob Fyfe's vision of a $1 billion brand.

Icebreaker boss Rob Fyfe is known as one of the most hands-on CEOs in New Zealand. After all, when he led Air New Zealand, he spent one day a month on the shop floor (so to speak) – cleaning toilets, handling baggage or serving drinks on planes. So how – and why – did Fyfe and Icebreaker founder Jeremy Moon decide not to take even a sneak preview into their new corporate headquarters before it was opened?

Former Air New Zealand CEO Rob Fyfe has now taken the same role at merino clothing firm Icebreaker, where he's been executive chair of the board for the past nine months.
