Mobile phone reviews often read like a fevered list of impenetrable numbers and tell you little about actually using the device. But as much as we don’t like doing that, with the Oppo Find X9 Pro, two numbers just can’t be avoided. It has a 7500mAh battery and a 200 megapixel camera. These industry-leading figures should mean Oppo’s new flagship phone takes incredible photographs for days – and it absolutely does.
The impressive battery is some 50% bigger than you get in an iPhone 17 Pro Max or an Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. But it comes in a smaller, lighter form factor, thanks to the new silicon carbon technology Oppo has employed. It’s yet to feature on any Google, Samsung or Apple handsets, the battery has a greater energy density, allowing it to hold more power in less space and charge faster. You can expect the Find X9 Pro to easily cope with more than two days of normal use between charges. That equates to about 22 hours of screen on time.
Hasselblad meets Sony
The camera module is equally impressive, and also puts other flagship phones in the shade. Working in conjunction with Swedish lens experts Hasselblad and sensor supplier Sony, Oppo has put together a photography package that works incredibly well. The 200MP telephoto camera comes with a 3x optical zoom, then there’s a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP selfie camera up front. There’s also a lot of processing power employed every time you click, with the device using a Hasselblad-tuned colour sensor to help your images look much more like what you actually see with the naked eye. It all just works though, and very well. Point, click, gasp.
Superkeen snappers can also track down an extended Hasselblad teleconverter lens that clicks into a compatible case and boosts the zoom to 10x.
More than great photos
Most folks won’t need to read any further than “killer camera, big battery” but there’s a lot more to the Find X9 Pro, way more than our word limit will allow me to detail as every aspect has a screed of selling points.
The screen, for example, is a pretty typically sized 6.78-inch OLED screen. It boasts a 1 to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. This makes it feel buttery smooth to scroll on and it’s easy to enjoy – even in the Kiwi sun. It has 3,600 nits peak brightness that can drop right down to 1 nit – a fantastic feature for folks who like to fiddle with their phone in the dark of a bedroom without irritating others.
The build quality is bonkers, with Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protecting the display. Tiny 1.5mm symmetrical bezels are surrounded by an aluminium frame that offers the same IP68 protection of other Android flagships but also exceeds the tougher-specced IP69 protection standard. You shouldn’t be too concerned if someone takes a pressure washer to it.
A host of AI features
The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner under the screen works well, even with greasy or wet digits. Physical button fans will be thrilled to find two: a Snap Key and a Quick button, which wakes the camera and controls the shutter and zoom. The former can be customised to perform various functions but defaults to Oppo’s AI Mindspace app, which is a searchable scrapbook you can fill with whatever interests you from any app that takes your fancy.
There’s a host of other AI apps provided as standard too, from the AI Link Boost that constantly optimises your wireless connections, to an AI transcriber that can capture your conversations on the fly.
So, what’s not to like? Very little, to be honest. The speakers are a little underwhelming. There’s more bloatware than might be expected, but those apps are easy to remove or disable. And it is large and heavy, but that’s only to be expected of a flagship device packed with this much tech.
Oppo has long been innovating at the top end of the phone market and now they have a handset with a better battery life than anything Apple or Samsung are selling. And, arguably, a better camera, too. It all makes for a very impressive package that is well worth your consideration.
