Popular Kiwi marketplace expands across the ditch to Australia

For years, Kiwi marketplace Designer Wardrobe has seen exponential growth in their very own backyard and are now headed to do the same thing in Australia.

There are over 325,000 active members on Designer Wardrobe in New Zealand alone and with the expansion to Australia, this number is only expected to grow even further.

When Designer Wardrobe’s Chief Executive Aidan Bartlett last talked to Idealog, it was revealed the platform was being valued at $13 million pre-money.

The platform’s next step is heading to Australia where Aussies now have access to more than 160,000 pieces.

This move aims to extend the life of thousands, if not millions of fashion pieces and accessories, says Bartlett.

“After 10 successful years in New Zealand, the growth we’ve experienced has been monumental, and we’re thrilled to now bring our thriving marketplace and community of fashion lovers to Australia,” he says.

“Global trend data highlights that there has been a significant surge in sustainable shopping trends, with consumers increasingly opting for smarter and more affordable fashion alternatives in response to rising inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.”

Designer Wardrobe’s arrival in Australia comes at a perfect time when insights revealed 300,000 tonnes of clothing ends up in landfill or being exported from the country each year.

There is a market for Designer Wardrobe where 73% of Australians are already purchasing pre-loved clothing.

“At a time when many are seeking additional income streams and looking to make smarter fashion choices by purchasing pre-loved, Aussies can feel confident buying and selling through a trusted marketplace with thousands of active members,” adds Bartlett.
