Webstock Startup Alley finalists line up

Ten startups are ready to show Webstock attendees and judges their best sides in Wellington in a fortnight.

Judges originally intended to choose eight finalists from the 38 entries, but organiser Mike Brown says the calibre of the ventures forced the group let 10 through.

“Another half a dozen would have been worthy finalists,” says conference organiser Mike Brown. “Eight finalists would have been too hard.”

He adds the ventures are a mix of ideas and more fully developed apps and services.

As well as the chance to promote themselves, finalists get a small business banking package, access to a business mentor, pitch coaching the chance to pitch to judges in front of a live audience.

The two winners receive $10,000, a trip to Silicon Valley to meet with big web industry names and a place in a programme at the Kiwi Landing Pad, the co-working space for Kiwi companies who want to establish a market in the US. It’s the Startup Alley’s third year.
