Victoria University has recently acquired New Zealand music recording label Rattle, to extend its publishing activities.
The label has represented artists including Michael Houston, Richard Nunns, John Psathas and the New Zealand String Quartet.
Rattle will join the university’s publishing arm Victoria University Press to take advantage of print and music publishing trends.
Publisher at Victoria University Press Fergus Barrowman calls it an exciting partnership.
“As publishing continues to move towards increased online activity, adding recorded music to our capability marks a natural progression in our development.”
Psathas says that Rattle has sustained and nurtured the work of many of New Zealand’s most unique composers and performers.
Nunns calls the label a national treasure: “Since the early 90s, Rattle has been at the forefront in the recording and promotion of a wide range of New Zealand music.”
