Dr Alison Paterson was honoured with the Supreme Award in Governance at this week's Woman in Governance Awards.
Paterson was hailed as a trail-blazer for women in governance, holding roles as a director on numerous public sector and private organisation boards over a career spanning more than 30 years.
Paterson has been on the board of the Reserve Bank, Vector Limited, PGG Wrightson, University of Auckland and the Waitemata District Health Board.
Norah Barlow was the recipient of the Gender Diversity in Leadership award as managing director and CEO of Summerset Groups, in addition to the Excellence in Leadership and Governance award.
Lesley Whyte CEO of Women on Boards New Zealand says the awards were a huge success and that it is fantastic to see women being recognised for their contribution in the governance and leadership space.
Whyte warns that New Zealand is still a long way from the ideal when it comes to gender diversity in the boardroom, saying New Zealand is languishing at the bottom of the table when it comes to women holding board positions.
