Recession? What recession? Applications are open now for a $50,000 scholarship for a New Zealand woman embarking on post-graduate studies, with preference given to studies in business, political science, economics or law.
The main criteria revolves around the individual's leadership potential and contribution to New Zealand.
Since 1999, the Yvonne Smith Charitable Trust has awarded one of these scholarships annually.
Applications for the 2012 scholarship close on December 15. Application forms and regulations can be found at www.fortunemanning.co.nz.
Last year's winner Divya Dhar has just begun a joint Masters in Public Policy and Business Administration at Harvard University.
Dhar's commitment to the community impressed the 2011 selection committee, along with her background as a doctor at Middlemore Hospital and her goal to develop and lead public-private health partnerships that will impact health outcomes in New Zealand and globally.
In recognition of her achievements, she was named Young New Zealander of the Year in 2010.
