A new business venture was born in Wellington last week and it promises to deliver to you the best of what the capital has to offer.
Wellington In A Box (WIAB) showcases the best of Wellington's artisan food products in a gift box with a selection of premium food and beverage products, selected for their quality and sustainability, to highlight Wellington's innovation and craft.
The business is the brainchild of Kate Beecroft who wants to get the message from local food producers to a larger audience outside of the capital.
Beecroft says "it was a conversation with café owner Ben Lenart from August Chocolate that inspired the idea". "The artisans in this box literally work in a two kilometre radius of each other and a quick survey of the gift box market showed that no one was celebrating the amazing produce that is at our very fingertips," she adds.
The business is initially targeting corporate companies which buy gift boxes for clients and employees, but also has a retail-facing arm through its online store.
The selection includes ParrotDog beer, Nikau Café Marmalade, August chocolates, Martin Bosley Herb Salts, Home Harvest herb seeds, Huffman’s Hot Sauce, Peoples Coffee, Six Barrel Soda and Bees Blessing cordial.
The company is also including a packet of rocket seeds in the box for people to turn the gift into a herb planter box, if they choose to.
“There will also be a deluxe version later on, with room for more artisan producers. We’re also exploring the idea of creating different boxes for other regions of New Zealand where food provenance is strong," says Beecroft. “But the launch pad for the company had to be Wellington.”
The goal, according to the founder, is to get people and companies with a vested interest in "Wellington Inc." to buy the boxes as gifts and share the love for the capital.
