There’s not that much difference in the pricing options offered by different electricity providers, right? Think again.
Some New Zealand SMEs are saving hundreds, and others thousands of dollars on overheads per year after using the Electricity Authority’s “What’s My Number” business tool.
The campaign, which was initially aimed solely at households, has now been extended to businesses to allow them to compare all the pricing options offered by electricity companies at no cost.
Electricity Authority Chief Executive Carl Hansen says many SMEs believe the financial gain of switching electricity providers is not worth the hassle. However, “What’s My Number” simplifies the entire process and shows businesses just how much money they might be throwing away.
“Now SMEs are starting to find out just how easy it is to shop around for cheaper power. The average spread in pricing received back is 26 percent, indicating significant savings can be gained by comparing and switching electricity retailers.
“The tool is simple to use and the more New Zealand business check they are on the right plan, the more pressure they can put on retailers to provide competitive offers.”
Commercial printers Goldfields Print & Packaging saved almost $3000 on electricity bills for the year after using the online tool.
Auckland based company Harcourts Cooper & Co Real Estate Ltd discovered it could save $8000 per year in overheads across its 12 branches.
Harcourts Cooper & Co CFO Ciaran Lowney says, “I found the tool to be straight-forward and intuitive. It’s very easy to use and it doesn’t take long to fill in the online form. I’ve already recommended it to others as a good way to save a significant sum.”
