Kiwi brand Manuka Doctor is well and truly staking out a place in the UK, winning Best New Brand at the annual Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Beauty Awards there for its purified bee venom products.
Manuka Doctor entered the UK market six months ago and recently followed suit back in New Zealand, opening a store in central Auckland.
Manuka Doctor director Nicola Macfarlane says the accolade (previous winners of the category include products from Elizabeth Arden, Guerlain and Clarins) opens up new possibilities for the company, including expanding distribution into new markets.
She said sales of skincare ranges ApiClear and ApiNourish, which use bee venom purified through a patented process, had totally exceeded expectations, with initial shipments selling out in less than a month after appearing on shelves in Britain.
Macfarlane said the win showed what was possible for New Zealand businesses and entrepreneurs seeking to break into overseas markets.
