Yealands Estate has been named runner-up in the Sustainability Award of the Year category at the 2012 Drinks Business Green Awards.
And fellow contender Villa Maria received special commendation in the same category.
The Green Awards are run by the Drinks Business, a trade publication, and are judged by an independent panel of sustainability and drinks industry experts.
The awards take into account how companies manage environmental issues including water management, biodiversity, community environmental training and supply chain efficiencies.
This puts Yealands in the top 16 sustainable organisations within the global drinks industry.
The Marlborough winery received carboNZero certification in April 2009 and was the largest winery in New Zealand to achieve it.
