Renewable energy sources made up 77 percent of total annual electricity generation last year, up from 74 percent – inching toward the government’s goal of 90 percent renewable by 2025.
Wind generation increased to 4.5 percent total generation in 2011, and geothermal generation increased to 13.4 per cent of total generation.
Energy minister Phil Heatley said increasing renewable generation also contributed to a 5 percent drop in annual greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generation.
The data is contained in the MED's Energy Quarterly.
