Nothing says I love you like a massive sign outside a mall – so to tap into the romantic spirit of the day, Westfield has once again let New Zealanders publicly declare their affection on 12 billboards around the country as part of its second Truly, Madly, Hugely campaign.
There were thousands of entries, three marriage proposals (including a request to re-marry after eloping for a courthouse wedding 10 years ago), plenty of cheese, some innuendo and a couple of slices of humour made onto this year’s winning billboards, which popped up around Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch overnight. And, as well as public exposure, the winning romantics get themselves a $6000 diamond ring.
“Life’s too short to love quietly [ooooh, errrr] and Westfield is happy to help romantics shout a message of love to their special Valentine.”

- As you can see, most of the winning entries are fairly earnest and we think there’s room for a bit more humour. So head on over to our sister site StopPress, add your romantic billboard suggestion (“You still owe me $50″ or “Marriage is the leading cause of divorce but…”, to the comment wall and the best one will score a collection of crap prizes.
