AMP Business, TVNZ's morning business programme, aired for the last time today.
TVNZ's Breakfast will start half an hour earlier in the new year, running from 6am to 9am, and incorporate business slots fronted by AMP Business presenter Nadine Chalmers-Ross.
TV3's news show Firstline, which starts at 6am – the same time as AMP Business – has proved a challenger to Breakfast. TV3 said its share of the 6am to 6.30am market had grown since October to 30 percent in its target 18-49 year-old demographic, while TVNZ's dropped to 15 percent.
TVNZ said it had previously considered making the business show part of Breakfast.
Its contract with key financial backer AMP had run its course, prompting the decision.
There would be no redundancies, as other AMP Business staff would be used in the new Breakfast lineup or had found roles elsewhere within the company.
Breakfast presenter Corin Dann presented the early business show prior to taking up his current position.
