Sony Alpha Nex camera range, from $1,100
In the past, shooting DSLR quality images has come with a price: bulk. It's always been a conundrum—do you sacrifice quality for convenience, or put up and shut up?
Sony may have solved that problem with the Alpha NEX series, featuring the world's smallest, lightest digital camera body with interchangeable lenses. Whether you're a seasoned or amateur photographer, it delivers high-quality stills as well as full HD movie recording. A firmware update later this year will offer a 3D panoramic shooting mode.
Also worth noting: the Handheld Twilight mode allows users to capture great pictures in low light without a tripod or flash, and built-in assistance offers photographic tips as you go. At just 24.3 millimetres thick and weighing around 230 grams, the camera slips easily into pockets or bags.
