Girl next door
Celine Rita Winter 2010 collection, price varies
Celine Rita Chapman isn't afraid to let girls dress like girls—in fact, she's making a living doing just that. Fresh out of AUT, she launched the Celine Rita label in 2008 and quickly gained a dedicated following. Some fashions struggle to translate from the runway to the street, but every garment in this range is wearable. Chapman favours silk, chiffon and other luxe fabrics, describing her design aesthetic as fresh and effortless. "I like to say it's for the girl next door with a quirk."
She says her Winter 2010 collection, however, shows a more experimental edge. Inspired by The Nutcracker, it features twisted-rope detailing, leopard-like heart prints and lashings of lace, with every piece made in New Zealand.
