A look at Karen Walker’s Newmarket pop-up

Starting November 4, Karen Walker’s Newmarket store will transform itself into the ultimate literary collaboration with The Caker and tea supplier Storm & India providing goods for the occasion.

Wairarapa’s Hedleys Books is the oldest family-owned and run book retailer in the country, a New Zealand publishing icon that’s survived two world wars and the global pervasiveness of Amazon.

Walker has jumped at the chance to curate her own library of favorite reads and recommendations. The fashion designer and the bookseller David Hedley, have personally selected 110 beautiful titles representing their combined favourite choices from their current it-list and a combined lifetime of reading, both fiction and non-fiction.

Every Saturday from November 4 onwards, the pop-up book store turns into a literary salon serving up summery, seasonally-inspired cakes by The Caker’s Jordan Rondel and organic teas by Storm & India.

For Christmas ideas Anna Hedley, Hedleys 4th generation bookseller, will be on-hand to give expert advice. The pop-up gives shoppers a new experience, allowing them to sit back with a slice of cake and a cup of tea while gifts are being wrapped.
