Wellington today becomes the sixth region in the country to hop on Vodafone's 4G network.
Following its initial (and partial) launch in February, Vodafone has setup the high speed data network in Christchurch, Lake Brunner, Queenstown, Wanaka, Taupo and now the capital.
Although the official Wellington launch is today, reviewers, testers, media and other tech-trendy folk have been on the network for some time.
Initially the coverage will be limited to around 30 percent of Wellington's population, but Vodafone says by September more than half of Wellingtonians will have access.
There are more than 150,000 active 4G capable devices on Vodafone's network. A spokesperson for the telco says due to commercial sensitivity, Vodafone isn't releasing the number of customers on a 4G plan – however, she says the proportion of devices using 4G is "significant".
Vodafone's entry level 4G plans start at $40 per month, including 500 MB of data. The following devices are currently supported, or will be supported in the near future:
· HTC One
· Samsung GALAXY S4
· HTC One SV
