Ever wanted to know exactly where your hard-earned money goes each time you pay your taxes?
Independent think tank Maxim Institute has launched its Tax Tracker web app to help people see specifically where their tax dollars will be spent based on the 2013 Budget.
The app was designed to give everyday Kiwis a “sense of scale” by translating the Government’s spending figures into a language that is relevant to the individual tax payer.
Simply type in your annual income and the program displays how much money you will contribute to public spending areas such as health, education and social security.
Unfortunately, the app doesn’t show how much of your money will be used by politicians to pay for their travel expenses or restaurant bills.
