Text spam complaint process gets with the times

Text spam: it's one of the great evils of modern times. But the Department of Internal Affairs is catching up with the times and making it a little easier to register complaints with a one-step process.

Punters can now forward text spam free of charge to 7726  and details of the offending message will be automatically registered.

They'll receive a response with a reference ID unique to the complaint, and a hyperlink to a mobile site that offers the option to provide more information. 

Previously users had to go through the department’s non-mobile website to fill out a complaint form.
