Telme what to do: Consumer NZ's new site cuts through telco twaddle

Not content with merely helping consumers get the best deal on electricity with Powerswitch, Consumer NZ has launched a telecommunications comparison website to cut through the maze of packages on offer.

Not content with merely helping consumers get the best deal on electricity with Powerswitch, Consumer NZ has launched a telecommunications comparison website to cut through the maze of packages on offer.

Telme

Telme.org.nz provides price comparisons for telecommunications and ISPs and covers internet, landline, mobile, TV and mobile broadband services.

Consumer NZ chief executive Sue Chetwin said the site was developed in an effort to provide more transparency for Kiwis as to the ongoing costs of services.

"By spending just a few minutes on the site people will be able to compare prices from the various telcos side by side," she said.

"They will be able to make an informed decision about how much they want to pay for the services that suit them."

Users fill out a questionnaire about their usage of a range of services, including text messaging, download and upload speeds and toll calls.

The site then presents the best options, at which point consumers can initiate a switch directly.

Of course, telcos are always launching new products and offers, and Telme relies on them to update those details.

Current specials that last for less than a year will also be excluded from the database.
