Re-leased’s new take on property management

When Auckland cloud-based property management company Re-leased started last year, founder and CEO Tom Wallace never thought he would be putting his ideas in front of the likes of Apple’s Steve Wozniak and Virgin’s Richard Branson.

?

Re-leased was created to be a piece of software that links with Xero to help users manage their property portfolios easily.

For example, Re-leased will automatically create rental invoices and send them through to Xero when they are due to be paid and can remind property managers about key tasks related to their portfolio. Because the software is cloud-based, it also allows for easy team communication.

Re-leased is approaching $1 million of turnover and is forecasted to break even at the end of this year.

Re-leased will be judged by the likes of Richard Branson and Steve Wozniak after winning the Talent Unleashed’s Rising star award last week. Branson and Wozniak will be deciding the global winner of the Talent Unleashed awards.

“It’s pretty overwhelming really” says Wallace, but he is looking forward to the exposure this will generate.

Wallace says success in foreign markets was Re-leased’s plan from day one. He is currently working on potential partnerships in the US and the UK where he hopes to be doing more business in 2015. The main focus for the rest of 2014, however, is strengthening the company’s presence in Australia and gaining more users.

Re-leased’s on-going partnership with Xero has also been a key driver of  success in the Australian market. Entering the Australian market has not been without a few challenges however and they have had to adapt their software’s capabilities to meet the markets demands.

The partnership with Xero will also be helpful with their plans to get into the UK and US markets, says Wallace. Xero is the biggest cloud-base accounting provider in Britain, which will give re-leased the opportunity to do business with Xero’s existing customers.

Re-leased has focused on making sure the software can be used by a variety of people, regardless of whether it is one man and his flat or a professional property manager, Wallace says.

If Re-leased is announced as the global winner of the Talent Unleashed awards, they will be awarded with a five-day business-mentoring workshop at the Branson Centre for Entrepreneurship in South Africa.
