How Māori business culture is becoming more prevalent in our communities

Business culture has adapted overtime as certain qualities are expected from companies. Qualities like inner support, sustainability, well-being, and a respect for our resources. Although these practices are becoming more widely used, they are not new. Business culture is a tricky thing to get right, but if we look to the practices Māori have been implementing in their businesses, and culture, for years, then its easy to see where a lot of our best initiatives are created.

Entries for this year’s NZ Hi-Tech Awards close on Monday. Among the highest-profile categories: the Hi-Tech Kamupene Māori o te Tau (Māori Company of the Year). Tech, science and Mātauranga Māori are a powerful force, but as Callaghan Innovation’s Vic Crone and Animation Research’s (and New Zealand Innovator of the Year) Ian Taylor say, greater representation for Māori and Pasifika in science and technology is the real key to the future.
