Meet the man harvesting laptop batteries to make power walls to charge his home

Maiker Faire, a festival of curiosity and innovation for all-ages of dreamers, creators, scientists and makers, hosted by Capital E, took to Wellington for the first time on Sunday 4 November. It saw a selection of humans who span the fields of science, art, performance, and craft plotted around Queens Wharf, Shed 6, and Capital E, in a wilful mixture of stalls and exhibition spaces. Amid the rabble of Star Wars paraphernalia and robotics was Paul Kennett, a man who collects old laptop batteries to turn them into battery packs and power walls. We talk to Kennett, albeit over some crackly phone reception, to hear more about the DIY innovations coming out of his garage in Lower Hutt.
