The Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ) has revealed the shortlist for this year's Book Design Awards.
The awards recognise excellence in seven categories, including the newly added cookbook design category, and the coveted award for Best Cover. An overall winner will then be selected from the seven category winners on the night for the Gerard Reid Award for Best Book.
The judging panel included Gideon Keith (convener), Sarah Maxey, Iain Sharp and last year's Young Designer of the Year Megan van Staden.
The judges were particularly impressed with the entries in the educational category:
"This is a tough section: the work involved, the audience and the material make the educational designer's job a hard one – the ones who got it right shone through," said Keith.
The winners will be announced at an awards night on July 18 at the Gus Fisher Gallery in Auckland. Here's a rundown of last year's winners.
