Joska & Sons: a design company making beautiful lamps
Joska & Sons are a Lyttelton design company making beautiful lamps

Joska & Sons is a design company based in Lyttelton, specialising in furniture design – currently lamps – that have an industrial spirit on a more practical scale.

There are four lamps in Joska & Sons' 2013 collection, each is elegantly simple with its raw materials on show.

Because the lamps are made with repurposed off-cuts from boutique ski manufacturer Kingswood Skis in Lyttelton, they have local and sustainable credentials.

Here are a couple of our favourites:

Copper Blond

Copper Blond ($460) is made from a simple bamboo joint with a waxed bamboo base, spun copper shade, and fabric cord, managing to be both an art piece and an unobtrusive design accessory.

The priciest of the four is their Scissor lamp ($1,220), inspired by industrial Bauhaus factory lamps. It is also made from bamboo with a powder-coated shade and reaches a height of 1.55 metres at its full extension.
