A cliff-top home in Remuera and a renovation in Tauranga have taken out the supreme awards in the Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers House of the Year Awards for 2012.
The coveted title of House of the Year went to PSL Construction Limited for its development of a home in Remuera, Auckland. The home also took out the New Homes over $2 million category and the GIB Living Award.
Judges say the cliff-top beauty is a work of art and a place to enjoy, with outstanding craftsmanship and exceptional finishing.
“Built to perfection, this home more than deserves to proudly wear the mantle of House of the Year for 2012.
“The seamless connections between indoor and outdoor living, presented with a variety of materials and colour schemes, morph together to provide a superb back drop to the finishing touches by a very discerning owner.
“Innovative construction techniques give rise to features such as a floating concrete floor slab, while extensive effort has been made to integrate the double glazed sliding doors to give the appearance of large curtain walls.”
Meanwhile, Riordan Construction Limited’s three-bedroom renovation in Matua, Tauranga wowed judges, taking out Renovation of the Year.
The builder was also awarded the Renovation over $500,000 Award and the Kitchen Award.
“The time and care spent to retain the old while introducing the new is evident in aspects such as the relaying of original roof tiles and cobble stones and the exquisite restoration of fireplaces and handrails.
“The finishing is second to none, incorporating a theme of oak throughout including custom made cabinetry tying in with the joinery, doors and stairwell detailing.
“This is not only the Renovation of the Year, but a renovation for many years to come.”
The finalists were selected from 12 regional competitions held throughout New Zealand during July and August.
