From purveyor of junk mail to soul-sucking agency work, Jason Lingard has finally found his calling in fashion design.
My first job was... delivering junk mail on my BMX
And now the title on my business card is... Fashion Designer
Which really means... pattern maker, seamstress, business man, and a whole heap of stress!
My day starts with... strong coffee, my laptop and a lot of emails
And ends... in bed with cheesy reality TV shows
And in between, I ... daydream, sketch, make patterns dispersed with coffees, friends, music and art for inspiration.
My first artistic memory is... designing outfits for the 80s cartoon popstar Jem, from Jem and the Holograms. Still the most fiercely dressed woman I know.
If I wasn't doing this, I'd ... still be in my old career, stuck in an office cubical doing soul-destroying design for an advertising agency
I'm inspired by... dystopian science fiction, 90s Marilyn Manson records, archival tribal ethnography, and the shapes of strange animals
I can't live without... music and art
True 'style' is... something that is authentic, reflects who you are, and speaks something of substance.
My work in three words is... dark, complex and layered
Jason Lingard is an AUT fashion student and one of 24 showing at this year's Rookie event on November 8
