An award-winning Kiwi design writer is hoping crowdfunding will help him take the New Zealand design story to an international conference in Brazil next month.
Michael Smythe is the author of New Zealand by Design: a history of New Zealand product design (read our review here), which won the NZSA Best First Book Award for Non-Fiction at the 2012 New Zealand Post Book Awards.
It was accepted for the Identities and Territories stream of the ICDHS Design Frontiers conference, the only paper from New Zealand.
It does mean Smythe has to pay his own way, so he's reaching out to all those who would like to see ‘the ends of the earth’ represented at the global forum. See pledgeme.co.nz/330.
Idealog has been covering the most interesting people, businesses and issues from the fields of innovation, design, technology and urban development for over 12 years. And we're asking for your support so we can keep telling those stories, inspire more entrepreneurs to start their own businesses and keep pushing New Zealand forward. Give over $5 a month and you will not only be supporting New Zealand innovation, but you’ll also receive a print subscription and a copy of the new book by David Downs and Dr. Michelle Dickinson, No. 8 Recharged (while stocks last).
