Fashion Week New Gen designers put their visions on wheels

Fashion Week 2012 kicks off in the first week of September, but the four up-and-comers in the New Generation show have offered a mini preview of their works – wrapped around four new BMW X1s, that is.

New Generation designers DMONIC INTENT, Silence Was..., Daniel K and Arielle Mermin were each asked to create their own interpretation of an ‘Ultimate Style Icon’ for a vehicle wrap, taking inspiration from their upcoming fashion collections and translating these onto the cars. 

The four New Gen BMWs are currently being showcased around Auckland and will form part of the official vehicle fleet for Fashion Week. The New Gen fashion show will be held on September 5.

The BMW designs are being judged by a panel of industry influencers including Clair Sullivan from The Denizen, Tina Moore from Remix magazine and Dan Gosling from Stolen Girlfriends Club. The winning designer will get to drive their X1 for a month.

"Gone are days of sticking logos everywhere. This is where it’s at," says Fashion Week brand manager Myken Stewart.

Ed Finn, NZ BMW communications manager, adds that BMW and the fashion industry share a passion for innovation and cutting edge design.

“Each of the designers are aspirational, entrepreneurial and at the start of a journey."
