Housing 101: Brand new Design Guide plays up the practical

The Kiwi love affair with property is well-established. And for those building a new home or undertaking renovations, there's a new magazine to guide them through the process.

The Design Guide is taking aim squarely at consumers in the design phase of a building project and publisher Mark Graham says it's an ideas generator packed with practical advice as opposed to a lifestyle/coffee table mag.

Until now consumers have had access to plenty of inspirational and aspirational content but nothing to guide them through the design process – and he says the annual Design Guide will help them work through achieving their vision.

It's written by architects and designers, including Marsh Cook, Ken Crossan, and David Strachan, and includes sections on building, landscaping and interior design.

Building is facing a tough time but Graham says forecasts are universal that things will improve through the end of 2012 and into 2013.

The Design Guide is available through Paper Plus and Whitcoulls outlets around the country, as well as in supermarkets and online.

The Design Guide complements the regional annual Building Guide, which is also published by Graham's company Straight Up Productions and recently got an overhaul of its own.
