Designers with an eye for creating sculptural furniture are being invited to take part in a new design competition. Announced by Formica New Zealand, the competition is encouraging both experienced and emerging designers to pit their design talents against 10 of the world’s best architects.
The 2011 Formica Formations competition requires entrants to submit design drawings only for a piece of sculptural furniture that would use Formica brand materials. The competition features two categories, one for professional architects and designers, and one for emerging architects and designers.
Individual and group submissions of no more than four team members will be accepted and the drawings will be judged by a panel of three local and international design experts.
The winning design from each category will be fabricated and displayed at an official awards ceremony later in the year.
You have until 31 July 2011 to get your best drawing in. In the meantime, you can find out more HERE.
The Enzed competition was spurred after what Formica says was a successful collaboration in 2008 between Formica USA and the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Cincinnati.
Formica New Zealand has since arranged for the US collection to appear as part of an exhibition at the Auckland Arts Festival 2011, and you can get a taster of some of those stunning designs below.
